Their complimentary salsa is fantastically spicy, their ceviche is usually great, and so is the lomito saltado. Ooh, and the papas a la huancaína is muy delicioso. I suggest going with a group and ordering a bunch of appetizers, tapas-style.

Don't forget the papas a la huancaína! A lot of their little appetizer dishes are delicious...enough to do tapas with a group. Also, it doesn't always appear on the menu, but their yucca frita (fried cassava) is amazing with their spicy salsa.

it is just a few blocks east of Little Italy, My personal non-Italian favourite is El Bodegon at the corner of College and Euclid. It's a homey, family-run Peruvian restaurant. Plenty of seafood on the menu for your non-red-meat eater. Try the camerones al ajillo (garlic shrimp) appetizer. And be careful of the hot sauce they serve with the bread -- it look innocuous but packs some serious heat.

It's a pretty reasonable spot, pricewise. App and main + tax and tip for 2 is generally around $60 - $70. We usually get a litre of Sangria, so that bumps it up another 20 or 30 bucks.

Try the lomo saltado. It's a classic Peruvian dish that is total comfort food for me: grilled strips of steak with grilled onions, tomatoes and fried potatoes served with rice. It sounds like a strange combo, but it is soooo good. That, plus the garlic shrimp app and the sangria make me a very happy hound!

Just an aside on El Bodegon.

I would avoid it on a cold winter's night. We were there on the first stormy night of the year and it was freezing inside. Judging from the garage door windows it would be a great in the summer.

On a good note, the fabulous soups warmed us up. The food was great and the service friendly.

El Bodegon is a great Peruvian place in Little Italy at the corner of College and Manning. Casual, warm environment. Try the camarones al ajillo (garlic shrimp), the anticuchos (grilled beef hearts) and the beef lomo saltado (grilled strips of steak sauteed with onions, potatoes and tomatoes, served over rice). Service can be a little slow on busy nights, but it's a family-run place and well worth a visit. Oh, and they happen to have excellent won ton soup!

AMAZING, we went for dinner and the portions are HUGE!! Not to mention absolutely delicious. The atmosphere is very unique and they open the doors so it's like you are sitting outside but really are inside. A totally one of a kind restaurant and I'm dying to go back. Must try the Pisqo Sour or Inca Cola-South American specialties.
