This time we enjoyed Rack of Lamb with mint jelly and Baby Back Spare Ribs with hot fruit compote. Everything prepared perfectly to our wishes and served piping hot from the kitchen. We started with Onion soup au Gratin and House Salad with to die for house made blue cheese dressing. We finished with an Old Fashioned Banana Split with extra whipped cream. Our server was attentive but not intrusive and every request was quickly responded to. We will most certainly return again and again. Our treat of the night was the Grange Winery 2010 Riesling VQA from Prince Edward County, winner of the 2012 Winemakers’ Award at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. What a great wine.

The service was stunningly aweful at this restaurant. The waiter knocked me, reached over me, shoved sauce bowls in front of my face. The food was plunked down. Coffee was servied wihtout asking if we wanted cream. There were 7 of us. My friend had to leave most of her steak on her plate since it had too much grissle on it and it was inedible! I nearly choked on a surprise mouthful of bones from the fish I ordered. How does such a restaurant justify $40 dollar meals with this poor quality and service. Stunning! This is the poorest quality restaurant in Toronto. Very Sad.

went to Barberians tonight and personally I think it is super casual and homey and great. Their rib steak and garlic bread was so awesome tonight! Other times I order their nicely charred ribs.

Really can't say the same for Carmens.

Compared to Barberians, Harbour is quite a bit more money and not nearly as casual feeling both in the way staff treat you and the clientelle vibe. That being said, I still love Harbour :)

I was just at barberians a week ago and the NY strip was excellent. Cooked med. rare it was very tender and tasty. The service was excellent! My BF has the prime Rib and he said it was very tasty as well. I have never been to Hy's but have to barberians about 5 times now and it has always been good.

I'd agree with estufarian on all points except for the in and out in 90 minutes. you can get out quickly if you want to, but i've never felt rushed. another thing to mention, aaron barberian has an encyclopedic knowledge of everything on his winelist, so he can make some excellent suggestions for any price range. if you ask nicely (and it's not overwhelmingly busy), he may even show you the cellar (which is actually in a separate building across the alley). for dessert, the apple beignets are awesome.

To be honest, for the price you pay at Barbarians, I've never been impressed. The meat is rather flavourless, and the sides are bland and boring.

I much prefer the steak and fries at the Bellevue Diner for less than half the price. Ditto for La Palette.

If you're looking for a steakhouse as opposed to bistro atmosphere, I like Ruths Chris and Harbour Sixty.

Excellent service, superb wine list (but not cheap) and very good steaks.
Very old-fashioned in style - but they excel at what they do - meat!meat!meat!.
Every visit is the same experience. Only the visiting celebrities change.
You'll be in and out in less than 90 minutes.
